I'm in one of those moods, you know the one, when you have the urge to move things around a little.

I've just brought this in here.

It's been in the garage since we moved in and I hated it being in there.  It had to come out.  This is the trunk that my great-grandfather brought all his worldly possessions in when he came to Australia from Ireland so it's a little piece of our family history.  Can you imagine having to fit everything you own into one of these to move to a new country!

It should never have been left in the garage but we didn't think it fitted in with all our white here, and new furniture so it just sort of languished in there (it was with friends though, our chiffonier is still in there, alongside a 1920's wardrobe and more!) until we could find a home for it.  But it's been playing on my mind, so here it is for now, right smack bang in the middle of the room.

This is what was here before.

And looking at that photo again, I think the white table actually looks nicer, but I just can't put this trunk back in the garage!!  Maybe upstairs would better?
The girls are watching Playschool so I've got half an hour up my sleeve to play with it!!
Have a great day x

I love it and I'm so happy it's come out of the garage. I think it's colour is gorgeous and being a trunk synonymous with travelling over the seas, think it suits your house by the sea. It's beautiful!

This trunk is wonderful and especially so as it's a family heirloom! I think it ties the room together much more than the previous table. Glad I found your blog today! -diane

The trunk looks fantastic. It's rustic and authentic. When most pieces of furniture are new, something old and solid can bring the room together. Like it's done here. Also, it's got a history so is a great conversation piece. Love it!

What a great talking piece ! You must find the perfect spot for such a special piece. Not to many people would have the actual item when telling the story of there ancestors. You will know when you find the perfect place.

The trunk is gorgeous! And having a lovely family history, it surely does not deserve to sit in the garage. It is where it is supposed to be now. Happy weekend, Kellie xx

I really like it, it's adding some more great character to the space. Why don't you live with it for awhile and then see how you feel. I think you're onto a winner.
Love your blog :)

Well you know what I am going to say..I LOVE IT!. A beach house isn't a beach house without a few things that have age to add some warmth and also some real individual style...but ofcoarse I am a bit biased ha, now move in those other pieces, xx Katherine
